Procedures and Principles Governing Equivalency in Internal and External Course Transfers

PROCEDURES AND PRINCIPLES GOVERNING EQUIVALENCY IN INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL COURSE TRANSFERS

1.In adjustment procedures of students who were placed through external and internal transfer and transfer via Central Placement Score (Additional Article 1), the below-mentioned equivalency rules shall apply to the courses they have passed in their previous formal education programs.

2."Taking courses from another institution;" Students shall be allowed to take courses (in summer school etc.) from a program that has a higher base score than the program in which they are enrolled, and the below-mentioned equivalency rules shall apply.

3.In the case of those who have previously graduated or dismissed from a higher education program and have been placed in our university through the placement exam; the base score of the program they have previously attended or are concurrently attending shall be higher than the program they are currently enrolled in at our university, for the courses they have previously passed in those programs to be recognized as equivalent (except for the common required courses). The below-mentioned "equivalency rules" shall apply in such cases.

4.Only the common required courses of those who are placed in our university through the Vertical Transfer Exam and Bachelor's Degree Completion shall be recognized as equivalent and adjustment of such students shall be made to the 1st year and the 1st semester.

Equivalency rules

ARTICLE 1 – Credits (local or ECTS) and content of the course shall be taken into account in the evaluation of course equivalency. The local or ECTS credit of the course shall be equal to or higher than the equivalent course credit. The course title does not necessarily have to be identical to the equivalent course.

ARTICLE 2 – The course instructor shall confirm that the course content bears at least 90% similarity to the course to be recognized as equivalent (based on the weekly syllabus of the course and the evaluation system, i.e. project, assignment, seminar, practice, mid-term exam). If not, the reason for rejection shall be specified.

ARTICLE 3 –  The medium of instruction of the course shall be the same as the equivalent course. This condition shall not be applied for applications to departments/programs that offer education in Turkish.

ARTICLE 4 – The number of credits that a student can transfer from other universities in a summer school and as a special student throughout their whole education period shall not exceed 10% of the total number of credits of that program. Courses taken above this limit shall not be counted towards graduation credit.

ARTICLE 5 – These procedures and principles are based on Article 21/1 of Hacettepe University Regulation on Associate and Undergraduate Education and Examinations.

ARTICLE 6 – These principles shall be valid as of the Fall Semester of the 2017-2018 Academic Year.
